Helpful writing checks

More than a word count.

For SEO drafts

Use SEO article mode to track an editable long-form target and review repeated terms before publishing. The source-backed target note appears beside the mode when selected.

For social posts

Switch to LinkedIn mode for shorter targets and quick readability hints before you paste your post into a social scheduler.

For student essays

Essay mode keeps the word target visible while you draft, so you can see what remains without uploading your text to a remote service.

Transparent counting rules

Know what the dashboard is estimating.

Words and URLs

Letters and numbers form a word. Internal apostrophes and repeated hyphens stay inside the same token, so don’t and mother-in-law each count once. A complete https:// or www. URL counts once. Emoji do not count as words.

Time estimates

Reading time uses 225 words per minute and speaking time uses 150, rounded up to whole minutes. These are planning estimates, not measurements of a specific reader or speaker.

Heuristic—not a grade

The draft check combines the selected working range, average sentence length, paragraph density and repeated terms. It cannot judge accuracy, argument quality, originality or whether the text satisfies an assignment.

Sentences and paragraphs

Sentence count uses full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. Paragraph count treats each non-empty line as a paragraph. Abbreviations, decimal numbers, dialogue and code can make those estimates differ from an editor’s count.

Language boundary

English and French have stop-word filters for repeated-term analysis. Other writing systems can be counted as Unicode text, but continuous Chinese, Japanese or Thai text does not have reliable word segmentation here.

Private draft analysis

The draft is analysed in the current browser tab. The tool code has no account, backend submission or saved document store. The page loads web fonts separately; clearing the editor removes the visible draft.
